NEW DELHI: Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat said on Wednesday that his comments on setting up “de-radicalisation camps” in J&K were misunderstood. Reacting to the political row his comments triggered, he said, “When I said camps — I meant the classification of people based on their views and the impact of relentless efforts to de-radicalise young people. The word camp got misunderstood, I meant dividing people into groups on the basis of whether they were already radicalised, fence sitters, or not radicalised yet.” He defended his comments on Citizenship Amendment Act when he said “leading masses to carry out violence was not leadership”. He said, “No one says you can be violent in protests. I was only highlighting the Constitution.”
